On Saturday October 4th my dad and I loaded up the Vicky and took it out to Tom Baker’s place so he could start the rust repair and body work on it. This is a huge step for me and for the car. Something I have been working towards for the last 6+ months. My goal has been to get the body work done and have the car in primer by the end of the year. If Tom is able to keep up with the pace he has already established I should have the car back well before then.

Tom is definitely an interesting cat. He came from the east coast so he knows what rust is. He kind of laughed at me when I showed him the spots on my car. He’s been restoring and working on cars since he was 15 years old. He knows the right way to take care of things, he’s not a tack and weld kind of guy. I went out to his place on Saturday to drop off the new floorboard and toe board metal and he had already plugged a bunch of the firewall and trim holes. He had also fixed the driver rear quarter panel. He ended up using only about 30% of the patch panel. The rest of it he used on the inner structure. He even redrilled the drain holes. Like I said, he knows his stuff.

Seeing this major step get underway has given me the fire to keep working on any thing I can to keep the progress moving forward. So I’ve been prepping, painting, and reassembling stuff as I can, just to keep moving forward. Even if they are small steps they will move me closer to having my car finished.

On the inner fenders I am trying out Eastwood’s 2k primer and paint. It is a 2 part system in a can and is supposed to give you spray gun type results from a can. So far I am pretty pleased with the outcome. I should be able to finish them up this weekend and post an update.

  1. Love your blog I have read it all and love seeing the progress done on your car. I have basically the same car 1954 Crestline Victoria and want to do a mild kustom like you. My car was hit at the firewall and pushed in the door hinges so I will need to do some serious patching.
I hope you haven’t given up on this and will post some updates soon.
