Sometimes I find myself in the middle of something and I realize I’ve just wasted 45 minutes doing something that probably will not matter. Tonight I using a wire wheel on a bench grinder to clean the battery tray. THE FREAKING BATTERY TRAY! Did it really need to be wire wheeled? Probably not. Will anybody look at it and say “Hey, did you wire wheel this thing?”. HELL NO! Oh well.

Today I received the LED turn signals I ordered from Ebay. The bezel had to be slightly enlarged to accept them, but they look fantastic. They’re 5/8″ and the high beam indicator in the middle is 1/4″.

When I first hit the shop tonight I dragged the dash outside and hit it with the DA sander and some 80 grit. On the smaller areas I used an angle grinder with a fiber pad. I got a good chunk of the dash finished before it started spitting rain.

I also brought over all of my new front end parts from the house. This weekend I will get it all out, inventory everything and then start assembling the spindles and brakes. It may seem like I am bouncing around, but I am moving in a somewhat forward direction. You see, the weather here has been kind of crappy for the last few days with high winds and intermittent rain. That means no painting and no sandblasting, so I have to do something to feel like I am moving forward.

Here’s a shot of the MOOG springs next to the stock springs. You can see the considerable difference in height, about 4 1/2″ inches. These springs are made for the Ford Aerostar and are part # CC850. Thanks to some very helpful people on the H.A.M.B. that spent a lot of time with spring technical catalogs they were able to find a spring that has the same diameter and spring rate as the stock ones, but they lower the car 3-4 inches. Plus they are cheap – about $60. The only other option for the 49-59 fords are aftermarket lowering springs and those run big $$$. I can’t wait to get them in the car!
